Avanelle (Abby) Allison

Avanelle (Abby) Louise Allison, 85 years old, of Mapleton, Iowa, passed away Friday, March 4, 2022 at Maple Heights Nursing Home in Mapleton, Iowa.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Saturday, April 23, 2022 at the Castana Community Hall in Castana, Iowa. Following the service, pulled pork sandwiches and hot dogs will be served as well as coffee and iced tea. Bring your own beverage and a potluck dish to share.  Please wear casual attire as music and dancing will ensue.  In Lieu of flowers, donations in Avanelle’s memory may be directed to the Mapleton Volunteer Fire Department in Mapleton, Iowa. Arrangements are under the direction of Goslar Funeral Home and Monuments, Onawa, Iowa.

Avanelle Louise was born June 4, 1936 in Akron, Ohio the daughter of Forrest Johnston Pyle and Julia Harris (Hill) Pyle.  She grew up in the Akron/Barberton area with her three siblings: Forrest Bruce Pyle, David Hamilton Pyle and Marianne Joyce Ecker.  Avanelle graduated from Barberton High School with the class of 1953.  

Avanelle moved to Denver, CO with her father, mother and sister where she met her husband, Thomas Dee Allison.  They were united in marriage on September 3, 1955.  To this union three children were born, Thomas (Tom) Forrest Allison, Karen Sue South, and Patricia (Patty) Louise Allison Taylor. 

She enjoyed knitting, sewing, crocheting, quilting, cross-stitch, puzzles, reading, drinking tea, baking/cooking, bird watching, and spending time with all of her family.  Most of all, she loved to share/teach anyone who wanted to learn any and all of the above skills.  She was a very strong intelligent individual and raised her children and encouraged her grandchildren to be the same.  She was a true matriarch for her family, leading the way and showing others they could do anything they put their minds to. 

Avanelle was a loving Wife, Mom, Grandma and Great Grandmother and is survived by her children, Thomas Allison of Denver, Colorado,  Karen (Dennis) South of Castana, Iowa, (Dennis passed on March 9, 2022), Patricia  (Jeff Leonard) Taylor of Parker, Colorado; grandchildren, Courtney Allison, Thomas Allison, Andy South, Katie Young, Kelsey Mohr, Corinne Taylor, Brandon Leonard, Travis Leonard, and Leigha Lines; great-grandchildren, Kate, Owen, Atticus, Athena, Jace, Brecken, Lane, and Cooper R.; brother, David H. Pyle; sister, Marianne J. Ecker; and several nieces, nephews and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Dee Allison; her parents, Forrest and Julia (Hill) Pyle; her brother, Forrest Bruce Pyle; and her grandson, Cooper Thomas Taylor.
