Alton Edward Morton
Alton Edward Morton, 89, of Onawa, Iowa, passed away Friday, February 7, 2025, at Burgess Health Center, Onawa, Iowa, surrounded by family.
A funeral service will be 10:30 A.M. Wednesday, February 12, 2025, at the Onawa United Methodist Church, Onawa, Iowa, with Pastor David Godwin and Pastor Catie Newman, officiating. A livestream of the service will be posted on the Goslar Funeral Home website with Alton’s obituary. Burial will follow in the Harrison Cemetery, Whiting, Iowa. A visitation will be 5:00 P.M. – 7:00 P.M. Tuesday, February 11, 2025, at the Goslar Funeral Home Chapel, Onawa, Iowa. Arrangements are under the direction of Goslar Funeral Home and Monuments, Onawa, Iowa.
Alton was born January 12, 1936, in rural Whiting, Iowa, the son of Edgar and Ruby (Carlson) Morton. He grew up in Whiting, Iowa, and graduated from Whiting High School with the class of 1954.
Alton and Elizabeth Deen were married on June 5, 1955, at the Whiting Methodist Church. Their first home was on The Morton Farm together. To this union they had two boys, Keith and Kevin, and one daughter, Julie.
Alton farmed with his father for many years, until his father gave him the farm in 1975. During the winters, Alton would work at Wilson Trailer as a welder. Alton retired in 2004 and bought a home in Onawa.
He enjoyed square dancing, camping, and fishing.
He looked forward to going to the Iowa State Fair every year. Alton and Elizabeth took many tour bus trips over the years, to various places.
He was a member of the Onawa United Methodist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth Morton of Onawa, Iowa; children, Keith (Tami) Morton of Whiting, Iowa, Kevin (Sheila Alioth) Morton of Salix, Iowa, and Julie (Randy) Stone of Gordon, Nebraska; grandchildren, Lucas (Katie) Morton of Whiting, Iowa, Megan (Grant) Garbe of Sioux City, Iowa, Rachel (Andrew) Limoges of Sioux City, Iowa, Krystin (Ben) Sitzmann of Le Mars, Iowa, Hannah Wroblewski of Lincoln, Nebraska, Sophia Wroblewski of Des Moines, Iowa, and Claire (Kaden) Russell of Ogallala, Nebraska; and great-grandchildren, Cadence, Ryatt, and Saylor Morton, Aiden and Carter Garbe, Caden and Marissa Sitzmann, Emmett and Croix Limoges, and Liam, Samuel, and Zachary Russell; brother-in-law, Billy (Marcena) Deen; and many other family members and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Edgar and Ruby (Carlson) Morton; parents-in-law, Darrel and Opal (Dean) Deen; brother-in-law, Darrel “Junior” Deen; and daughter-in-law, Judy Morton.
