Douglas Monk Obituary

Douglas D. Monk, 64, of Vail, Iowa, passed away on Saturday, August 25, 2018, surrounded by his family and close friends.

Private family memorial services will take place. Arrangements are under the direction of Rush Family Care Service in Onawa.

Douglas was born on May 15, 1954, in Sioux City, Iowa, to William and Rosa (Jones) Monk. He graduated from Whiting High School in Whiting, Iowa, with the class of 1973.

He married Orise Desmond and the couple had three children: Rosa, Will, and Joe.

He worked in agriculture as an agronomist for most of his life. He moved to Vail, Iowa, where he spent the rest of his life with his life partner, Sandra “Sam” Podey.

Douglas was a great father and loyal friend, and enjoyed fishing and spending time with his children. He was a loyal Iowa Hawkeye fan and loved to listen to rock music, or “listening to his tunes” as he called it.

Survivors include his life partner, Sandra “Sam” Podey of Vail, IA; children, Rosa (Kevin) Lynch of Onawa, IA, William (Jill) Monk of Cedar Rapids, IA, and Joe Monk of Cedar Rapids, IA; stepchildren, Heidi Nobiling of Vail, IA and Ben (Lori) Nobiling of Mendota, IL; step-grandchildren, Jokow, Cloey, Zoey, and Nadalynn; sister, Cathy Lyle of Oklahoma City, OK; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, William “Bill” Monk, and brother-in-law, John Lyle.

Memorial donations for Douglas’ final expenses may be directed to Rosa Lynch at 810 16th Street Onawa, IA 51040.
